Yes Rene, there is a Cartesian dilemma…

Dear world… are you out there? Really? Or is everything a figment of My imagination? Or are things really there, just not in exactly the same sense as I understand them to be? In the end, I can only conclude that all I really have to go on is My own intensional understanding of the extended world. Kind of like saying I can talk to you all I want, but I can only do so in a language neither of us understand. I understand Myself to be an extended body, with an intended consciousness… but how? Where does any ‘knowledge’ of the extensive world come from, when knowledge and understanding are inherently intensive notions?
Supporting Science

I haven’t had a chance yet to catch up completely on Obama’s speech this morning regarding stem cell research, but I caught a bit of it during breakfast. One line in particular caught my attention.
“We will support science”
Okay, his administration intends to support science. That sounds like a noble cause… one I can get behind myself. Joking aside, however, there was something in the way he inflected the phrase, combined with my philosophy that a lot of the time what IS said is far less meaningful than what ISN’T said that caught in my throat. I’m sure the leader of the free world has better things to do than poke fun at his predecessor, but isn’t he kind of implying that the Bush administration, by virtue of their having done the opposite of what Obama was doing today, was NOT supporting science?
A part of me wanted to poke at the TV screen and ask “Hey, passive aggressive much?”
